The reason people hereabouts have not been seeing the new net.announce
moderated newsgroup is that utzoo is still running news version 2.10
(as opposed to 2.10.1), and 2.10 had a bug that prevented moderated
newsgroups from working. For reasons of time I'd prefer to postpone
upgrading utzoo to 2.10.1 for a little while, but the problem with
moderated newsgroups is very localized, and I have cleared it up by
plugging in the 2.10.1 version of header.c.
If anyone else hereabouts, especially the secondary hubs (utcsrgv,
dciem, and watmath) is still running 2.10, please make this change.
The new header.c drops right into 2.10 and causes no problems. It
is available separately from utzoo as utzoo!~uucp/header.c . (If
you haven't upgraded to 2.10.1 yet and want to, utzoo!~uucp/news.tar
is the 2.10.1 distribution. All 700KB of it.)
To quote a recent letter from Mark Horton:
Until you do [make the change], important notices will not get
past your system, and innocent people posting notices will get
their articles mailed back to them with a confusing and incorrect
error message.
My apologies for taking so long to fix this up at utzoo. Please check
your system and fix it if necessary. (To check, grep APPROVED header.c;
if it's not in there, you have the old header.c.)
