Our entire Fujitsu 160 Mb disk drive had to be replaced, so we lost everything on it. User files were backed up to tape, but the /usr/spool partition wasn't. As a result, we lost everything in /usr/spool, including mail and news. We're now running normally again. If you sent mail through lsuc and it was received here before Wednesday morning (August 6) 11 a.m. (when we crashed), and didn't leave before the crash, then it's gone and you should re-send. If it didn't get here before the crash, it will have been queued up and processed properly after we came up (Thursday 4 p.m.). If you sent mail to anyone on lsuc and it was received before 2 a.m. Tuesday or not transmitted until after we came back up, then it was received. Otherwise it was likely never read. (There's an automatic nightly backup of /usr/spool/mail to our other disk.) David Sherman The Law Society of Upper Canada Toronto -- { ihnp4!utzoo seismo!mnetor utzoo hcr decvax!utcsri } !lsuc!dave
