We have started a feed of Canadian news. Unlike the newswire informatoin that we have been feeding out free this month from UPI, the Canadian news comes from a wire aimed at radio stations. This means: The information is not as well classified. The stories are more brief. They're written in a style to be read aloud, with things spelled out and phonetic pronunciations of names The reporters care even less about spelling and format, etc. But it is Canadian news. I just got the beta software running, and rather than keep it all on my machine, I'm letting it out to you right away. After all, you're not paying customers, and I figured you might want to see the stuff. It's likely to change as time goes on. clari.canada.newscast -- this group, every hour, gets the text of a newscast. This means both world news and Canadian news. Each newscast replaces the previous one, so there should only be one article at a time in this group. clari.canada.briefs Regular newsbriefs on the country, and various regions, including Alberta, Prairies, BC, Ontario and Toronto. Haven't seen any Quebec or Eastern briefs yet, let's see what comes down the wire... clari.canada.general All the general news. The reporters don't write headlines, so the software kludges some together. clari.canada.biz Some financial news. Haven't really set this group out fully yet. What I'm not doing are sports (even University scores!), weather, some business stories and arts & entertainment. We will see what there is and pick a good collection. We also have ski reports, lottery numbers and regular updates on Ontario road conditions. Probably not of interest to people in BC. I am going to check with my sources. The ski reports, weather reports and road reports come from the government, and as such may not be copyrighted. If so, if there's interest, I'll make a permanent free newsgroup for these. Want to check the roads? Sign on to your computer... If you just want the latest Canadian news only (getting your world news from the regular clari groups) read the "Canadian Briefs" articles in clari.canada.briefs. Perhaps we will put these in their own group. Your comments are welcome in this newsgroup, or by mail. These "uucp" groups are the closest thing we have to discuss this sort of thing. We need a can.usenet, perhaps? -- Brad Templeton, ClariNet Communications Corp. -- Waterloo, Ontario 519/884-7473
