Please mail all corrections to the USENET map (posted to net.news.map) to cbosgd!map, not to cbosgd!mark. This will put them in a special mailbox where Karen and I will take care of them. We will make a concentrated effort to keep the map up to date, and will probably post it monthly to net.news.map or net.adm.map or some such place. This will make it possible to set up an entry in your sys file to keep the current map on line at all times. If we are to keep the map up to date, you out there in netland have to tell us when the configuration changes. So when a new site joins the net, or when one of your neighboring links moves, please mail a note to cbosgd!map. Remember, USENET is the set of systems running netnews. It is not the same as UUCP net. Also, in order to avoid counting all the local nodes which use netnews only for local news, we don't count sites which don't get net.all (excluding a finite number of groups is OK) or links over which net.all doesn't pass. If your site gets uucp mail but does not run news, it belongs on the UUCP map but not this map. Hopefully within the next few months some procedures for automatic distribution of the UUCP map will be established - Steve Bellovin is doing the much harder job of maintaining the UUCP map.
