A wine that I have learned to kill for is a French Columbard put out by a little winery called 'Valley of the Moon' in the Sonoma Valley area. It is relatively cheap (~$5/btl.), but addictively good. Every so often, I trip up to taste wines and buy a couple of cases. Unfortunately for you poor people who aren't within 2 hours of the wine regions, they only sell through the winery, so you can't get it (unless you come to one of my parties or find out where they are). Two wineries that get a wider distribution that you should keep an eye for are Cakebread Cellars and Smother's Wineries. The first has a good line of wines, and everything I have tasted has been very good. I have only tried one Smother's wine (a rather new winery run by singers Tom and Dick), and it shows a lot of potential (it was a white, and I think it was a Reisling, but I don't remember offhand). I'm looking forward to trying more of their works. I'm not a great fan of the larger wineries (living near so many good small ones spoils you), but the Robert Mondavi 'Muscato D'Oro' is a rather amazing desert wine. It is a white made from muscatel grapes, has only 4% alcohol, and should be served extremely cold. It is a real good way to relax after a nice dinner. -- From the house at Pooh Corner Chuqui (a Silly Old Bear) {fortune,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui I wish I had time to explain dimensional trancendentalism --- Dr. Who
