[net.wines] Any Beer Drinkers Out There?

jvs@iwu1d.UUCP (John V. Smith) (01/27/84)

This may seem a bit out of place, but the description for this newsgroup
says that it's for Wines and spirits. There does'nt seem to be any other
newsgroup more appropriate for this discussion, so I'm posting here. Is
anyone on the net interested in Beer (drinking, can or bottle collecting,
tasting, brewing history, etc.)? I know there are a lot of beer drinkers
out there so why don't we get some discussions going on these subjects.
I hope I'm not the only serious beer drinker on the net.

Take these next lines with a grain of salt (if the shoe fits........).
I don't want to hear from any snobby wine drinkers telling me that beer is
an inferior beverage (you drink yours, I'll drink mine) or that this discussion
does not belong here. Until there is a net.beer newsgroup, this seems to be
the most appropriate place for beer discussions. Thankyou!

I don't like beer very much, but it seems that this group should be used
for discussion of beer, too, implicitly.

And what about `hard' liquors, for that matter? I think that belongs
here too.

[ I hope we don't start getting into a disagreement like they are having
  about net.music.rock, net.music.classical, etc... ]

Actually, beer and wine drinking can go hand in hand. I brew my own,
and have been getting into the whole thing quite heavily; yet I still
love fine wines, too. The big difference is that I can brew better
quality beer than I can buy, with rare exceptions , since I can control
the quality and quantity of ingredients. Wine--of the type we want
to consider here, anyway--is still a relatively low-volume, high-cost
product.  It takes unique ingredients and a long period of loving care;
I've tasted many home wines, and while some were quite good, none met
or exceeded the best I could buy. Or even the better ones.

However, in direct answer to your question--yes, you've beer lovers
out here. And brewers--I don't think I can say braumeister, yet, but
I'm working on it. Any questions? Let me know.
