One of the problems with tasting foreign beers is that often one can not distinguish between a poorly brewed beer and a well brewed beer that has seen rough treatment during shipping (exposure to light, heat, diesel fumes, etc.) Pick up on Michael Jackson's "Pocket Guide to Beer", and then arm yourself with several of the "world class beers" that he raves about. Your taste buds may point out a difference, and that difference is very probably the shipping. (The beers imported by Merchant du Vin seem to travel pretty well.)
