A sale ad from a local liquor chain has the following entry under the Sauvignon Blanc/Fume Blanc heading: Pat Paulsen 1981 ... $6.99 Does this have anything to do with the Pat Paulsen who did comedy routines on the old Smothers Brothers tv show and was a candidate for President in a parody campaign at the time? Did he become a vintner? Or is it just a coincidence of names? Will

Yes, it's the same guy. A lot of stars are recently getting into the wine-making business. Has anyone tried any of the "celebrity" vintages? / _/ ~/\ \ \ ~/ -_\ \_____~/ /\ /\ / \ / | / \' | / \ / The one & only me, Bethan

That is the same Pat Paulsen who ran for president and worked with the Smothers Brothers (as an aside, the Smothers Brothers also on a winery). The Paulsen label is small, but has a reasonably good reputation. The Smothers Brothers wines are supposed to be better, if you can find those (I haven't been able to, so I can't say) chuq -- From under the bar at Callahan's: Chuq Von Rospach {amd70,fortune,hplabs,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui (408) 733-2600 x242 To work it out I let them in; All the good guys and the bad guys that I've been; All the devils that disturbed me, and the angels that defeated them somehow; Come together in me now.

I haven't tried the Smothers Brothers wine but I did see an enthuciastic review of it in some magazine--maybe Bon Appetit or some other cooking magazine. I think the article said their Reisling is very good, but don't quote me on that. Sharon Badian

<> Regarding Paulsen and Smothers Brothers... both were on display (and available for tasting) at the Sonoma County Harvest Festival last fall. I would guess they'll be there again this fall. I did not try either...
