Hi, guys. Homebrewer that I am, I still often make forays into the world of wines--not that I love the beer less, nor the wine more, etc. But I just ran into one that truly deserves notice. Most of you are probably aware that the heir to Taylor vineyards lost all rights to his name when he sold out. Thereafter, he started another vineyard called Bully Hill. Now, let's get one thing straight. This man is strange. (Strange in a way that I like, but still strange) And his latest offering proves it. Ready? Bully Hill Vineyards 100% New York State Space Shuttle White Wine vintage 1982 - dry - Yep. Not only that, but the label is a painting--by this guy--of the Columbia III shuttle flight of 22 March, '82. But the fun really begins on the back label. Just to excerpt the best parts--not that those I've skipped aren't (you could drink the whole bottle while reading the label): "WARNING: Even though wine has been used by humans for over 4,253 years, irresponsible use of this product could be harmful. 'Noah...proceeded to plant a vineyard.' Genesis 9:20" "The artwork on the front label is the work of the owner of Bully Hill who cannot legibly use his name or heritage on this design because of U. S. Federal Court action." And the fun ends when you pull the cork, and read--his coat off arms? Nope. Apparently, the Bully Hill motto: WINE WITHOUT GUILT --------------- BULLY HILL VINEYARDS Dave Ihnat ihuxx!ignatz

Mr. Walter S. XXXXXX produced an earlier version a couple years back called Space Shuttle Rose. Once you got done reading the label, the wine was pretty good. I would suggest that anyone who associates New York State wine solely with Mogen David try a bottle of Bully Hill, or Wagner, or Glendora. They're starting to get it "right" up there. -Warren Moe

Walter S. was actually one of the 4 commissioned artists that NASA hired to capture the first shuttle flight. He went one further by making a new blend he called "Space Shuttle *" It comes in a white and a rose. The 1982 was a much better wine than the '81. Other Bully Hill interesting names include: Wine For Tennis Old Goat - named after the family goat (Taylor did not get his goat) Old Barnyard Workers Red And the corks have been known to say WINE WITHOUT SIN, WINE WITHOUT FEAR and the old standby WINE WITHOUT GUILT. If you are ever in the Southern Tier of NY do stop by and see Bully Hill. It is a small place and I think gave the best tour of all the wineries in that area. They don't tend to herd you down to see large stainless steel tanks, you go into the casking cellar and walk on the hoses and see wine running down tubes tacked on the walls!! The guides tell you some real information about wines in general and what and why they and other wineries do certain things. Lastly Walter S. is a wine consumer advocate, his wine is 100% NY wine, unlike Taylor, etc which is 51% NY grapes, 49% Calif, Libya, etc grapes. He calls the competitors the "Tank Car" wines... There were no railroad tracks going through Bully Hill.... -- Dave Arpa: Sewhuk.HENR@PARC-MAXC.ARPA uucp: {allegra, rochester, ritcv, ritvp, amd70, sunybcs}!rocksvax!dave
