I recently saw some Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvinon at some prices that really rasied my eyebrows. They were 1979 Cab Sauv $24.95 1978 Cab Sauv $36.95 What's the story here? Is this stuff really that good? I'm used to seeing RM wines in the $5-$13 range... Bruce Kinmonth ...decvax!decwrl!rhea!null!kinmonth

The Robert Mondavi Cabernet that was seen with the high price tags is probably the "proprietor's reserve" bottling. Mondavi bottles their wines three ways, the regular vintage bottling (usually in the $5 to $15 range), the Robert Mondavi Red, White and Rose' 1.5 liter jugs ($4 to $7), and the "reserve" wines, usually only done with Cabernets. These Cabs are dear, and often have price tags in the $20 and $30 range. I've tasted the '78, and it's a classic wine. Worth the price? now that's another question entirely.... -- dave bauer (303)538-4482 AT&T Information Systems Laboratories, Denver ihnp4!drutx!dlb 11900 N. Pecos St., Room 30J28, Denver, CO 80234
