A PBS tv program on the weekend of wine tasting in San Francisco which was called "The California Wine Experience" was just aired locally (St. Louis, 9 PM, 7/25/84). Unfortunately, this was broadcast during a period of storms, which managed to wipe out either the transmitter or the relay feed of KETC-TV (Ch. 9) intermittently during the program, so I only saw and heard little isolated bits of it. (*) Did anyone on this list attend this festival? Even if you didn't, if you know anything about it, could you post some info about it? I'm especially interested in answers to these questions: 1) How much did it cost? I heard attendees mention that they were spending "thousands", but that includes more than just the cost of the attendance at the program. I never heard what it cost by itself. 2) They mentioned that it was sold out months in advance. When is the next one going to be held? Will it be the same price, or what will it cost? (Is here going to be another one, or was this a one-shot deal?) 3) Is attendance restricted to subscribers to the sponsoring magazine (I believe it was "The Wine Spectator")? Anyone have any comments to offer on this publication? Is it worth subscribing to? Answers and general comments solicited. Please POST any input -- this group needs more traffic. It's been at too low a level for months. Will Martin (*) To anyone who is in the St. Louis area, or who gets KETC on cable: Please call KETC at (314) 725-2460 and ask for "programming" and request that they repeat this program, "The California Wine Experience", due to the technical trouble during the broadcast. If they get enough calls, they will repeat it. -- WM
