Someone recently asked about the publication THE WINE SPECTATOR and the tasting event they hold called the "California Wine Experience." The Wine Spectator is a newspaper-format publication, distributed twice monthly (except January and August, when only one issue is published). It usually ranges from 30 to 100 pages. The paper is geared toward wine consumers (unlike the companion publication IMPACT, which is geared toward members of the wine trade and is significantly more expensive). Feature articles deal with news in the wine industry, restaurant wine lists, and interviews with various winemakers and winery owners both domestically and abroad. A four page pullout section in each issue highlights new wine releases and tasting notes, dividing the wines into "highly recommended," "recommended," and a controversial "not recommended" section. I've subscribed to the paper for the past 6 months or so, and have found it to be quite useful and informative (although I don't always agree with their tasting recommendations....) Subscriptions to the paper are $30 for one year, $55 for two years, and can be obtained from The Wine Spectator 400 E. 51st Street New York, NY 10022 or call toll free, 24 hrs/day, at 800-227-1617, x560 (in California call 800-772-3545 x560) I checked my back issues of the paper but couldn't locate anything showing the cost of admission to the "California Wine Experience." I remember it being quite expensive, around $250 per person, or something like that. There were ads for similar shows in Aspen CO and Reno NV, and admission to those were around $200 per person. -- dave bauer (303)538-4482 AT&T Information Systems Laboratories, Denver ihnp4!drutx!dlb 11900 N.
