As there is much talk of red wines, I would add that Robert Mondavi of Calif. makes a Cabernet Sauvignon that prices from $12-$16 on their 1978 or 1979. It is substantially better than any Sebastiani signature or proprietor's reserve wines that I have tried (including their Cabernet S.) It also costs more though. There is a red wine of comparable quality for under $6/bottle if you can find it. Actually there are two different ones, both Spanish, from a winery called Torres. These are: Gran Coronas Reserva 1976 (but not 1979--maybe other years) Gran Sangre de Toro 1976 or 1974 (but not 1979--maybe other years) I find these two wines comparable to reds which cost over $10/bottle. I've seen these as low as $4/bottle! Lately, I cannot find them, though. ...hplabs!hp-pcd!joseph
