Errol Ratcliffe, owner of Ratcliffe's seafood restaurant in Dallas, placed his personal and business assets under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this last week. The total amount of assets involved have not yet been disclosed, but Grand Bank is said to hold a 1.5 million dollar note. Trouble started when the bank demanded more collateral than Errol could provide, and so they filed a foreclosure on the restaurant. Restaurants come and go in Dallas, but Ratcliffe's is somewhat special. Errol does a great deal to raise the local wine awareness. He and wine consultant Diane Teitelbaum, developed his restaurant's wine cellar to such stunning dimensions (750 selection 26,300 bottle inventory) that it won a Wine Spectator's Grand Award this last August. This wine list is exquisite. I wish Errol all the best with the reorganization.
