[net.gdead] High traffic newsgroup

howard@metheus.UUCP (Howard A. Landman) (01/06/84)

Yes, net.gdead is a newsgroup, although it has been removed more than once
and is not passed on by many sites. It focuses on the activities of the
rock group The Grateful Dead and their fans (known as "deadheads"). The
reason you don't see many messages on it is that most sites throw them away,
so they don't get very wide coverage. I tried sending out a request on it
a month or so ago and I have reason to believe that it was only accepted by 2
sites (our own and one other).

As long as I am sending this message to a wider audience, could anyone out there
who reads net.gdead send me mail saying whether they ever saw a message from
me last month? Also any information on which sites do and do not accept
net.gdead would be nice. I will summarize for those who are interested.

P.S. The Dead's annual New Year's Eve concert this year (in San Francisco)
was fantastic. Lead-in act was The Band, recently re-formed. Also the closing
song was a very rare one for the Dead: "Good Night Irene", done as a rocker!
