I almost promised myself I wouldn't respond to the remarks about salt & hard-boiled eggs, but I must. The "egg standing phenomenon" is real, not a trick or hoax. You too can get an egg to stand on end. A little patience and a steady hand are all that is necessary. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the EQUINOX APPARENTLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. Jim Cohoon, formerly of Minnesota, says this was covered in great detail by Minnesota news stations who determined that the only time you can get an egg to stand for money in a bar is on the equinox. We've had a departmental "death egg" (so named for a skull and crossbones drawn on the side to keep away potential egg suckers; or possibly because of what would happen to you if you tried to eat it) in the refrigerator since September. I was reminded of it the other day, approximately one week after the equinox, and attempted to get it to stand. It did stand (for a paltry eight seconds). I will attempt to get it to stand at the solstice (presumably the hardest time to get an egg to stand). Try it without the salt or hardboiled egg. It really really works. joe wilson Univ. of Virginia uucp: ...decvax!duke!mcnc!ncsu!uvacs!jnw CSnet: jnw@uvacs Arpa: jnw.uvacs@udel-relay
