[net.rumor] hp in Seattle

dlk@ssc-vax.UUCP (Donald Kaiser) (12/10/83)

I've heard rumors that hewlett-packard is starting up a
bioinstrumentation division in Seattle, Washington. Does
anybody know anything about this? Thanks in advance.

HP does have a medical division in McMinnville, Oregon, but I haven't
heard of any plans to do anything new in the Seattle area.

Well, Hewlett Packard has recently announced a joint venture with
Genentech (of gene-splicing fame) to develop bio-instrumentation
or whatever it is that Genentech needs for its work.
I don't remember a location being mentioned, but I guess I
assumed that the venture would be close to Genentech in S. San Francisco.

Other than that, HP has an electronic instruments division in Lake Stevens
(which is close to Seattle) but I haven't heard of any bio-instrument
stuff there. (HP's medical stuff is in Massachusetts.)

There is SOMETHING of HP's in Seattle, because a friend of mine
has applied for a job there, and put me down as a reference, since
they specifically asked if he had any references that are HP employees.
