The Consumer Reports had an article about caffein within the last
two or three years. I would recommend it as very interesting
and informative.
One peculiar fact was that certain orange sodas were spiked with
caffein by the manufacturers. My my.

Yes, if you note the list of caffiene contents in various soft drinks you will realize something that caught my office mate quite by surprise. We have a Pepsi (unfortunately, I'm just dying for a Coke, or better yet an RC to go with my Moon Pie) machine. In it are PEPSI, DIET PEPSI, Mountain Dew, and A&W Root Beer. My friend was buying Mountain Dew thinking it didn't have any caffiene (actually it has more than any of them). The A&W was the only thing that didn't have caffiene. SURPRISE. Read those ingredients carefully. -Ron

For some time, some sizes in some areas of the US, of Sunkist Orange Soda
did indeed contain caffeine (and showed it in the fine print on the label).
Mountain Dew and Aspen still do contain caffeine, as far as I know. So
does chocolate (a very small percentage of caffeine, though). And tea
has more caffeine than coffee. (By the way, shouldn't this have gone to
net.consumers too?)

#R:brl-vgr:-332700:iuvax:4500002:000:704 iuvax!apratt Apr 9 02:57:00 1984 "...And tea has more caffeine than coffee." Can you back this up? Doesn't it depend on how you make your tea or coffee? I assume you mean "Big K" brand (that is, your basic generic Black tea)... Do you mean per ounce? That'll depend on how strong you make each and how the stuff was prepared in the first place (percolated coffee vs. auto. drip vs instant, loose vs. bag tea). Sorry, I just cannot accept a blanket statement like that. With manufactured products, it's different: you can deal with grams of caffeine per ounce of Coke, because there is a formula for making Coke, and it doesn't vary all that much. Coffee and tea vary indefinitely. -- Allan Pratt ...ihnp4!inuxc!iuvax!apratt
