"Gigabyte" is not listed in my dictionary, but "gigaelectron volt",
"gigahertz", and "gigameter" are listed.  And for each of these, the
pronunciation of "giga" is either "ji'ge" or "jig e".  (where the "i" is
long in the first case, short in the second case.  Also, the "e" is really
a "schwa" which is normally printed as an upside-down "e").

The point is that it is pronounced with a "J" sound, not a "G"...
