I asked about this when my wife and I bought our Britannica.  Sorry,
folks, the Britannica is NOT ONLINE.  They do the whole thing the
OLD OLD way, with bizarre tapes using 5-bit punches to run arcane
linotype machines, and so on.

Further, the illustrations in Britannica are some of the major reasons for
getting the thing, and they seem to think that these would not transfer
well to an electronic medium.

Oh well, staid conservatism kills another great idea.

So - they might be someday.  With high enough density, the pretty pictures
could be displayed as well.  Some integration of video disc and ROM disc
would do the trick.  It'll happen.  Just give it time.
