[] Rumor has it that Atari is about to introduce a new home video game unit that will feature vastly improved graphics (and hopefully, vastly improved games). Supposedly, this unit will also be able to play all of the old Atari 2600 cartridges. Anybody know more about this? - neil ...linus!vaxine!nw Neil Webber

Actually the Wall Street Journal mentioned that Atari did indeed announce a new video game it is the 7600 (3 * 2600 ?) and does have improved graphics and sound. The CEO of atari was quoted as saying 85% of our revenue in 1985 will be due to products not yet released. He also said some major projects were cancelled but did not specifically mention the 1400. He did say Atari saw no reason to remove itself from the home computer business, lets hope Warner overlooks a big reason for removing itself from Atari. --Chuck

The new Atari machine called the 7800 (get it?...5200+2600!) A friend saw it at a sales kick-off meeting.. The graphics are excellent with 100 sprites and 40 colors. It will run 2600 software and it's own (not 5200!) and will have attachable keyboard. An upgrade for the 5200 machines is supposed to be coming for holders of the older machines.
