Is Intel going through some sort of shake-up? A friend of mine sells equipment to them and they (the Intel people) are acting like tomorrow is their last day... Of course, that could be the way they are normally... Gary

Perhaps the Intel people this person spoke to expect IBM to buy them up completely the same way it did ROLM. -- Harlan B. Braude {most "backbone" sites}!hou5a!hbb

The Wall Street Journal, of course, carried an article about IBM's planned takeover of ROLM. What's that got to do with INTEL? Well, the article reported several rumors that IBM's next target may be INTEL. A spokes- person for INTEL denied the rumors. Tom Woodburn

-------------- [This is the official rumor of the 1984 Olympic hangover] Why should IBM have to take over Intel? They already own a good percentage (22% I think, with an option for up to 30%), and they are Intel's largest customer for 8086 and 64K memory family components. This gives them a good deal of control, without the heartache of antitrust suits. In any case, the management at Intel seem to think that the sun rises and sets on IBM. The silliest and least consequential of technical decisions at IBM is greeted like the Grail of the Lemmings. [This rumor comes ex officio from an ex-Intelite.]
