[net.rumor] "R&D Group"

wolit@rabbit.UUCP (Jan Wolitzky) (10/13/84)

Does anyone know anything more about this:

"A syndicate of	29 major corporations, universities and	government labs,
unofficially known as the 'R&D Group,' annually	meets in secret	to trade
confidential information on salaries and other personnel matters... Because
the syndicate includes some of the electronics industry's largest technology
companies--including AT&T Co. and General Electric Co.	and encompasses
virtually all of the major technology pacesetters, the R&D Group appears to
have a significant and unprecedented role in determining the industry's
working	environment..."

Personnel departments of every company I have worked for since
I became aware of such matters trade information on salaries,
and other personnel matters quite openly. It's considered part
of their job to keep up with what other organizations are doing.
If there is such a group, and if they do trade secret information,
its not likely to be personnel data.
