gleaned from Jan. Computer Design: Hitachi, Ltd leaked news of its plans to build a 68000-compatible 32-bit microcomputer at a recent Tokyo conference. Expected release is 1987. Called the Micro 32, it is anticipated to feature: o CMOS chip with 420,000 transistors o 5 million IPS o 20-MHz interal clock (40-MHz external) o 32 bit bus will perform full multiply and divide on 32-bit data o pipeline architecture o high speed cache memory o full upward compatiblity with the Motorola 68000 o maybe 68020 compatible, but probably 'several steps beyond' On the day of the Hitachi announcement, Motorola's stock was the most active on the NYSE, falling $1.625. -- Today we live in the future, Tomorrow we'll live for the moment, But, pray we never live in the past. -------------- Daniel G.
