I got this rumor off of a local B-Board, so take it with a pound of salt: According to the poster, an Article in the Wall Street Journal (or perhaps an ad there) had the headline "FREE MAC UPGRADE!" Under it, it said that John Sculley has authorized that anyone can bring their Mac into a local Apple Service Center and, for free... ...have Steve Jobs signiture ground off the inside cover of the Mac. Could someone confirm/deny this? I really doubt it, because it strikes me as bad P.R.; however, if it's true, the term "weenie" comes to mind in association with Apple and Sculley. I've approved of most of Sculley's moves since he took over, but really, Jobs did so much for the design and construction of the Mac, any move of this type would be pure spite. If Apple really does 'redesign' the Macintosh so it runs MS-DOS (DOSMac ?) and UNIX (UniMac ?), will it run the current Mac programs? It would make the upgrade to the newer more powerful Mac a definite possibility (incredibility possible, if not more possible) for some of us.

Actually, I think this is a funny comment about the "new case" that's
supposed to be included with the board-swap/upgrade rumoured for January.
I would be surprised if there were *ANY* signatures inside ....

yipyipyipyipyipiyipyipyipyipyipyip I don't know about that. WE haven't heard anything directly from Apple about removel of Jobs' signature from the inside of Mac's. There ARE signatures on the back inside cover of the Mac. However, Jobs' scribble would be a little hard to file off. Not that I'd want to do it, but someone might... kamath@reed.UUCP -- ________________________________________________________________________________ UUCP {ihnp4,decvax,ucbcad}!tektronix!reed!kamath And I looked again And the monster was me...

Hey, just another Apple rumor: A friend of mine (who shall remain unnamed) has been busily taking apart the new Mac Plus ROM and among lots of goodies guess what he found? 68020 instructions! s
