The best play I ever saw occurred in a regular season game between the Kansas City Royals and the Milwaukee Brewers. With nobody on base, a Milwaukee batter hit a ground ball just to the right of second. The Kansas City second baseman, who was playing over in the hole and deep against a left-handed hitter, got to the ball, and realizing there was no way he could get enough on the ball to throw the batter out at first, \\flipped to the shortstop// who was also coming toward second. The shortstop's throw beat the runner handily. The reason I consider this play "best" is that, rather than just a display of physical skill, the play occurred because the second baseman was able to "think on his feet" and do the correct thing, i.e. the thing that had the greatest chance of getting the out at first. The rest of the (Milwaukee) crowd apparently concurred, as the visitors received substantial applause for this effort.
