[net.sport.baseball] 8 ways to get on 1st base

Since most of the answer was posted already by Scott, I`ll tell
you what I think is the 8th way. I discount the balk with 3 balls
`cause you have a walk(already listed) and error (already listed).
How about if there are less than 2 out and a runner on base.
Your hit hits the runner, he`s out, but you get 1st base.

The eighth way is obstruction by a fielder. This case is different from
catcher's interference in that the former is on a batted ball and the latter
is when the catcher prevents the batter from swinging.

There is no such thing as a balk with noone on base!!!!!! The pitcher can
do anything with noone on and if he doesn't release the ball, it is called
no pitch. This rule has one exception, but it isn't a balk. If the pitcher
goes to his mouth with his hand from anywhere within an eighteen foot circle
around the mound, the umpire should automatically call a ball. If this happened
with a 3-and-0 count, it would be ball four and a walk. Concerning Tom
O'Connor's suggested 8th way of getting on base, if a runner is hit by a batted
ball, it is correct that the runner is out and the batter gets first base, but
the batter is credited with a single so that way was already listed.
