The answer to the question of how to strike out with no pitches thrown: (the net answer of skip in the batting order is correct but I was looking for:) If a batter is due up and does not enter the batter's box, the ump asks him to step in the batter's box. If he does not step in, the ump at his discretion, calls a strike, without the pitcher throwing the ball. If the batter still does not step into the box, the above rather grim scenario may be repeated twice more to strike the bum out. This could be the answer to Dave's question of winning a game without throwing a ball, but alas, it isn't............... Andy

I disagree with the answer to striking out without the pitcher throwing a pitch. The actual ruling states that when the batter refuses to take his position in the batter's box, the umpire shall ORDER THE PITCHER TO PITCH, AND SHALL CALL "STRIKE" ON EACH SUCH PITCH (no matter where the ball is pitched). This is the correct ruling. It is not possible to get a K without the pitcher throwing the ball. Rich Barry
