1B: Ernie Banks 2B: Glenn Beckert 3B: Ron (Pizza) Santo SS: Don Kessinger C: Randy Hundley Though I've never been a Cubs fan, I grew up in the Chicago area and went to quite a few games that year (including Holtzman's no-hitter against the Braves, which, oddly enough, was the beginning of their tailspin). Their double play combination was something to see -- Kessinger and Beckert, on offense as well as on defense. Kessinger led off, followed by Beckert. Inevitably, Kessinger would get on, and Beckert would either advance him to second, or get a hit himself. It was one of the best leadoff combinations I've seen. As the song went: Hey, hey! Holy mackeral! No doubt about it! The Cubs are on their way!
