I am really ticked off! How dare Chub Feeney tell Whitey Herzog who should be on his team for the All-Star game tonight. If Herzog didn`t think Fernando belonged on the squad, then that should`ve been that. But no, not for Fernando, says Feeney. Hey, his stats aren`t that great this year. I`m sure there are either pitchers who have better 1983 records that belong on the squad, or veteran stars that should be playing. After all, this is the All-STAR game. I`m sick and tired of hearing how wonderful Fernando is. He still has a long way to go before he deserves this kind of treatment. Feeney was WAY out of line and I hope Herzog doesn`t put him in tonight. By the way, I hope you AL fans are ready to lose again. Tom O`Connor ihuxw!tommyo

On a local sports radio show I heard that one possible reason that Fernando was not wanted on the All-Star squad was that he was scheduled to be the Dodgers' pitcher in their game on Monday July 4 against Houston. Herzog did not want a pitcher with that little rest. Mindy Morrill

I think Steve missed my point. I was arguing that the president of the N.L. shouldn`t be able to tell the NL manager who shouldor even shouldn`t be on the All-Star squad. Herzog knows the players in the league, and he doesn`t need some high league official to tell him who he should pick. Sure there have been players picked who had less then great seasons, especially in the fan voting. Compare the fans choice of Sax over Sandberg. The voting method is flawed, beacause it becomes a poularity contest (like homecoming queen elections in high school) and because the ballot seems to always be missing players that should be on the list. Write-ins can make it (Rico Carty, Steve Garvey) but it`s highly unlikely. I`ll be the first to admit that you can`t say the NL is superior to the AL `cause we`ve won all but 2 games in the lsat 20 years. Remember back when the series began, the AL had a big lead in games won. Does that mean the AL was superior then but not now? Of course not. You can`t even look at the World Series results and say which league is better. So let`s all sit back this summer and watch what may be 4 good divisional races and enjoy this great game of baseball. Play ball! Tom O`Connor
