Well, the responses seem to have stopped coming in so it is time to post the results of the balloting on the best current player in baseball. The emphasis here was on CURRENT so I ignored the vote that came in for Ty Cobb. Other than that vote I received nineteen votes and I did come up with a consensus winner, although it was close. The results look like this: The winner with 4 votes is ........................DALE MURPHY!!!!!!!!!!!!! The rest of the votes shake down like this: PETE ROSE-3 ROBIN YOUNT-3 ROD CAREW-2 MIKE SCHMIDT-2 GEORGE BRETT-1 JOHNNY BENCH-1 GARY ALLENSON-1 DAVE WINFIELD-1 CARL YASTREMSKI-1 Jim Hendricks

I just started reading this newsgroup, so please excuse me, but NO VOTES FOR EDDIE MURRAY??? The O's are always in the thick of the pennant race, and it's hard to think of a more consistent player than Eddie (check his stats since he came into the league in 1977). Still, I must agree that everybody has their own favorite, and most of the responses seemed reasonable.
