[net.sport.baseball] Combined no-hitters

I read somewhere that Babe Ruth once pitched part of a ho-hitter. He walked
the first batter, but argued the last ball so vociferously that he was
ejected. The reliever came in and pitched a perfect game from there on out.
Possibly Ruth may have been ejected before the first batter was finished, so
he may have officially faced no one. Can anyone confirm or deny this story?

The story you related was correct. The first batter was walked, and Ruth
was ejected for protesting. Ernie Shore came in to pitch, the runner was
thrown out trying to steal second, and Shore retired the next 26 batters
in a row. Therefore, he got credit for a perfect game. There have been other
combined no-hitters, but they don't spring to mind.
