Don't despair Dave Stotts!!!! In spite of the fact that we were ripped-off in those two series by the umpires we will prevail!!! Right now the Braves can't seem to put it all together. Since we are on cable I imagine a lot of folks on the net get a chance to see the Braves, and if so I'm sure that they witnessed the EXCELLENT 4-hit shut-out pitched by Craig McMutry over the Padres. I didn't get to see all of the game myself, but from what I read and heard from the media we looked upon that win as the start of something good...alas we dropped the next two to the Padres, and Sunday's game was a heartbreaker...leaving the bases loaded in the 12th inning. When the pitching's good we lose 2-1...when we get the good hitting we lose the game 7-6. Can't seem to put it together. Which brings up my Question of the Week:::: Can any baseball expert on the net explain to me what there is to major-league pitching? To make it clearer, I'm not sure what's happening when I hear the announcer saying that the hitter was expecting a fastball. What situation dictaites a fastball? The only thing I'm reasonably sure about is that a 3-0 count will bring a fastball down the pipe for a certain strike, and it appears that every major -league pitcher can do it, and it also appears every major-league batter takes it. Is it percentages that the batter is playing? What's to it? I guess the same can be said for batting; that is, why do you figurethe guy's gonna throw you a curve? How efective is the brush-back pitch? Seems to me you throw one under my chin I'm gonna take my same batting stance for the nextr pitch...Does anyone understand what I'm asking??? What I'm trying to figure out is why a team can go hitless in a game they MUST win and then the next night get 14 hits???!!! (Different pitchers obviously, but isn't a fastball a fastball!!) HEY RUSS!!!! E'en though thou art surronded by Blue Varlets and Red Knaaves, know ye that the power of the tee-pee and the Unshakeable Faith of Dennis - not to mention a pretty decent cable audience- will prevail!!!! It is wriiten!!! DENNIS
