Here's my shot! The term "Winning ugly" is attributed to Texas Ranger's manager Doug Rader's comments on the way Chicago was winning it's games. According to the Sporting News, Rader was not talking about the way they looked physically ("...I'm no oil painting myself...") but the way they were winning games. The Chisox fans had prepared a slogan of their own: "Miracle on XXth St." (I forgot the street!!) and decided to combine slogans. I believe now they are saying "Winning Ugly on XXth St!". Chi-town netters please correct me if wrong. In any event... CONGRATULATIONS CHICAGO NETTERS!!! HOPE TO SEE YOU IN OCTOBER!!!! dennis

The White Sox may be "winning ugly" and they will certainly be around for the playoffs, having clinched their division absurdly early. HOWEVER... The Baltimore Orioles have made a mockery of what was once the best race in the Bigs. (Please no flames from the NL East. It's tough to get really worked up over a handful of .500 teams playing King of the Mediocre Hill) They've won ugly, they've won well, and unless the Tigers can sweep a pair from them tonight, they've just about sewn it up. We'll see them in October for sure. Still, let's fire up and make one last stand!! Sing lustily!! We're all behind our baseball team, GO GET 'EM, TIGERS!! World series bound and picking up steam, GO GET 'EM, TIGERS!! They'll be joy in Tigertown, we'll sing you songs When the Bengals bring the pennant home, where it belongs. We're all behind our baseball team, Go get 'em, Detroit Tigers, GO GET 'EM, TIGERS!!! Morris for Cy Young. Say nice things about DiTROYT. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Garry Hodgson (heh heh) BTL Whippany {floyd!garry}
