[net.sport.baseball] ABC/NBC/CBS

diy@sb1.UUCP (DENNIS YOUNG) (10/14/83)

1000% agreement with Tim reagrding ABC's handling of the games. I used to
wonder what all the hoopla was about over Cosell. I never really "listened"
to the games as much as I was watching it. But one day I really paid attention
to what was happening in the booth, and "MINE EYES WERE OPENED!!!"

He brings out a good point, repeats it, repeats it again: "Dennis Young, truly
an amazing story -- born a paraplegic -- came back to hit the winning homer
in the fourth game of the series last year, a truly remarkable athelete,
indubitably the best palyer on this team, having come back from incarceration
for seven years for allegedly perpetrating a crime of a heinous nature, and
to wit I asked last year what were his responses to the allegations..."

PEOPLE magazine indeed. What I really noticed was how he always interrrupted
whoever was talking to state how right he was about what he just said. Anyway
I can do without him. Just give me Al Michaels.

NBC has the better baseball coverage, again agreeing with Tim, because their
focus is on the game. However, I could do without Garagiola!!! I wasn't born
when Duke Snider hit the winning shot in '43! I don't care what Stengel said
to MAcy after the fourth game of the 52 series. He should remember that his
audience includes a broad section of people, of varying ages, and at least
try to give me something I can relate to...but then again, who am I to make
these demands.

My CBS comment is a question: How come they no show nothing!!!! EVER!!!
Couldn't they (or did they) bid for at least a playoff game.

Someone please help me on this:

There was an article in Playboy some time ago on His Loquaciousness, and
it was scathing! I do not remember the issue or the author, but it summed
up what many of us feel about Cosell. If any of you guys know, please post
it for those who may be interested.
