[net.sport.baseball] Baseball Trades at Winter Meeting

A few comments on some of the trades made down in Nashville.

Cubs get Sanderson from Expos, Expos get Lucas from S.D,
S.D. gets Lefferts and Martinez from Cubs.

Not surprising for Cubs. Green said he wanted pitching.
A local boy, Sanderson will be well recieved in the Windy
City. S.D. gets a decent pitcher in Lefferts, and as Cub
trades normally go, a future star in Martinez, though
there`s no way he`s going to start at 1B, a guy named
Garvey has that spot. Mont. beefs up their bullpen even
more, won`t miss Sanderson. S.D. big winner in my book.
Rumor had it here in Chi. we almost got Steve Rodgers,
but Green wasn`t ready to give up what he`d have to.
I still expect another Cub trade, with Moreland being
the bait. He`s been wanted by a few teams.

Ward to Texas, Smithson and Butcher to Minn.

I see Texas is giving up on two of their hurling hopefuls
for some power. Minn could afford it, they`ve got plenty
of other good hitters, and you can always use good, young
pitching. I give the nod to the Twins.

Thomas to Seattle, Bernazard to Cleveland

Both teams do well. Indians get a good combo up the middle
with Tony and Franco. Gorman will love the Kingdome - 30
homers easy if he can control his Ks. Call it even.

Free agent Parker shaves his beard and goes to Cincy.
I think he`ll do well. A new city and a good 2nd half
on `83 will see him over .300 with 20+ homers.

Joe Morgan moves out to Cal. to pick out his after-baseball
home and play with the A`s. Joe, why don`t you just retire?
