As reported in the New York Times on Sunday 12/11/83, the winter meeting of Major League owners in Nashville has been beseiged with lobby groups from areas like Indianapolis and Tampa begging (yes, that's the appropriate term) for expansion franchises. The official party of MLB is that "we'll expand when it's in the best interests of the league blahblahblah..." It is expected that when new franchises ARE awarded, they will cost in the neighborhood of $20Mbucks, as opposed to $7M for the last expansion. These estimates are based (reportedly) on the recent sale of the Ditroyt Tigers for FORTY-THREE (count 'em) MILLION DOLLARS. Whew!! There's gold in them thar pizzas. ------------------------------------------------------------ Tom Dennehy AT&T BL Whippany, NJ {whuxb|clyde}!tgd
