[net.sport.baseball] Met Fans: Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Goodbye

ewf@ihuxr.UUCP (Gene Foster) (04/16/84)

All right all you Met fans that just "gotter believe," believe that
the Cubs just swept the series from them and if it weren't for all
you New Yorkers praying for rain on Sunday, the Cubs would have won
another. Hey Met fans, your're pitching stinks and just wait till
Strawberry starts batting in the 100s like he did when he started
last year. And one more thing, what were all you smoking when
you picked the Mets to finish ahead of the Cubs in the final standings.
They haven't done that for at least 4 or 5 years and there is no
reason to think they will this year. That's all for now, but if
Met fans continue to be ignorant of the facts, I will respond to
those allegations and alligators.

Remember, "The police are not here to create disorder, they're here
to preserve it."

I always knew that the sun was too hot for the cubbie fans in the
bleachers. Their brains are all cooked out. The Cubs finish above
the Mets this year? Never happen. This is the magical year for the
Metsies. Just watch our smoke. The only reason the Mets lost two
to the Cubs this last weekend was the fact that they have not had
a chance to become acclimatized from their sojurn in the the
Southern climes. Just you wait. The Expos are gonna catch it
this week in Shea. Besides, where are the Cubbies right now?
We are going to enjoy our year to the fullest. Break out the
beer boys, this life is for squirrels, We're off to Shea to
whistle at girls.

	1) Revel in it now; a two game sweep of the Mets at Wrigley
is the closest the Cubs will get to glory.
	2) It is incorrect to say Met pitching stinks; the correct
term is inexperienced. However, Cub pitching does stink.
The Milwaukee Braves used to have quite a starting
rotation: Spahn, Sain, and two days of rain. For the
Cubs today, it had best be forty days and forty nights
(oops, I forgot...nightfall is illegal on the North Side).
	3) The Cubs stole Harry Carey. Now Cub fans are stealing
Comiskey's favorite serenade (Na Na Na Na ...). And the
Cubs will not get a divisional title short of ripping down
the White Sox's AL West banner and transplanting it in
	   Wrigley.
	4) Seriously, folks, take a look at the talent the Cubs farm
system has produced. There's Mel Hall, and there's ....
Mel Hall, and don't forget, there's also...Mel Hall!

I think that hometown cheering is ok. What I object to are boors (not the
person who wrote the above letter, but the Cubs fan who started this)
who jump in and put down teams and their fans when they're having some
harmless fun. If we Mets fans were enjoying the team's start, how is that
hurting anyone else and why should someone jump in at the first sign of
faltering and gloat. I haven't mentioned a name, but the person I'm referring
to knows who he is and so does everyone else.

Aw, comeon gang. Let's not get serious. I have a lot of fun
ragging the other team's fans (especially the cubbies). I'm
sure the cubbies have fun doing the same to the Mets fans. This
kind of ribbing has been going on for 20 years, why get upset.
There has always been a fun rivalry between the two teams and
us upper deck dolts from Shea and the bleacher bums from Wrigley
have been tossing insults for years. I guess it has just not
shown up on the net before. When it comes down to the Cubs being
in the World Series, I, for one will cheer them on just as if it were
the Mets. After all, the NL East has to stick together.

It's all in fun guys. I rather get a kick out of reading just
how many ways the Mets can be insulted. After all, what can
anyone do to us after we hired Marv Thronberry?

And, yes, the Expos had Mets for lunch on Tuesday. But, did
anyone see the end of that game Wednesday? WoW, really put
one together to cause cardiac arrest. THAT was a ballgame.

I see that King Kong went and done it again. Too bad he can't
catch a blimp in a ballpark. BTW, poor old Pete Rose got
knocked on his kester by the new kid behind the plate
yesterday. Mr Hustle seems to be finally slowing down. A
sad day for us oldtimers. We thought he could go on forever and
uphold our honor.

For the guy who wanted to discuss the new Commish. He will be
the same old owners toady they all have been. About George -
he will fire Yogi before the 4th of July and bring back some
other loser from the past. (Don't he ever meet new people?)
Trades, trades? Well,I don't read the trades.:-) As for moves,
Seaver's move to the Sox was the best thing that has happened
to the Mets in ten years. Sure I like the guy, but he is
just a wee bit past the top to anything for the Mets.

Hey, out there in Gumball Field, get some lights. I'm getting
tired of missing games while I'm at work.

I also read that prediction that the Mets would finish higher than the Cubs.
After I picked myself off the floor, I checked where the guy that made that
prediction was from. . . New Jersey!!!!!!!!! Doesn't that answer any credibility
questions you might have? I also like that guy's reasoning about the Mets
losing to the Cubs because the were not 'acclimatized' to the Southern climes.
First, what the hell does that word 'acclimatized' mean and second, what the
hell does that sentence mean? It certainly doesn't make me rest any easier at
night when I see the Bell in his company's name, but then again, he's from New
Jersey. Let me go on record right now by making a safe statement and saying
that the Cubs will finish higher than the Mets. The only question is: How much
higher? And let's hear it for the 1984 World Champions:

			THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!

david@fisher.UUCP (David Rubin) (04/20/84)

Don't knock New Jersey, pal. After all, who didn't know what
"acclimatize" meant? And at least our state isn't in a state of
economic decay, like some states in some regions I know. What of
the White Sox? THEY play in the *ugh* AMERICAN league, where some
players can hit without fielding, and vice versa. As for the Cubs and
Mets, well, at least the Mets have won a pennant in my lifetime.

White Sox, 84 Champs? Not with Seaver on the mound. Two innings
and start the bullpen warming up.

To the same Chi fan who wanted to know what acclimatized means. It's
like sitting in the bleachers on a sunny day and a thundershower
comes along. If you are acclimatized, you stay put and suffer the
shower instead of running for the exit. It also helps if it's the
end of the 8th, tied ballgame, and you already have 5 beers under
your belt.

BTW, the Mets pulled off another late inning Expo squasher yesterday.
TODAY THE PHILLIES, TOMMORROW THE CHAMPIONSHIP! We can dream can't we?
T. C. Wheeler

P.S. Us Met fans gotta do our crowing now. The All-Star break is
the traditional downfall of the magic. BTW, how about some of you
other team fans adding to the ruckus? It's all for fun and
enjoyment of the game. I'm sure there are some serious topics
in baseball, but, I feel that if you get too serious about the
game, it detracts from the enjoyment. Let the owners be the
serious ones and us fans just sit back and have some fun.

jimph@ihuxv.UUCP (Jim Hendricks) (04/20/84)

You just proved my point by explaining a non-existent word (acclimatize)!
By the way, I agree that those with no sense of humor have no right whatsoever
discussing the Mets OR the Cubs. Let us Mets and Cubs backers gloat early!!!!
The only difference is, when the New York fans (read Jerseyites also) get
through gloating over the Mets, they have no further recourse but to sit back
and wait for the football season to provide them with more letdowns. We
Chicagoans have (of late) the White Sox to gloat about, and by the way, the
only reason Seaver is starting right now is because Britt Burns asked to be
put in the bullpen. The correct thing to be done with the best pitching staff
in baseball is to have Cy Young award winner Lamarr Hoyt, Richard Dotson, Floyd
Bannister (Those three compiled a 34-3 record after the all-star break last
year), and Britt Burns starting with Seaver in long relief (Koosman's job last
year) and Ron Reed, Salome Barojas, and Juan Agosto sharing the short relief.
By the way, the difference between the Mets and the Cubs is hitting and Lee
Smith. Also, the Cubs starters look pretty good so far but this fan doesn't
hold out much hope for anything but a possible first division finish (if they're
lucky).

Mets? Cubs? White Sox???? Bletch! I'll keep rooting for the Good Old
SF Giants even though their picked to finish low in the ole NL West again.
How could you not cheer for a team that boos the new club Mascot - The San
Francisco Crab - off of the field, and even has the manager kick dirt on
it... Go team go! I wonder if Jack Clark will remember how many outs
there are in this inning???

I think net.sport.baseball would be a lot more fun if people would
keep their home town cheering for their ballpark, living rooms,
and local bars, and left the net for discussions of more global
concern, such as politics (the new commisioner, free agents, Georgie
Porgie, et. al), key trades, rules, and the like.

	Just an opinion,
