I must say this trade has taken a very interesting turn with Dallas Green messing up with the waivers. Maybe the Cubbie angel in the sky is trying to tell us something. Maybe he`s trying to prevent another "Let`s trade the youngsters away so they can be stars someplace else" syndrome that has plagued the Cubs. I`ll be the very first to admit that the Cubs pitching needs some help, and that both Sutcliffe and Frazier can help the team, assuming the former can regain his rookie form that won him the award a few years back. The Cubs certainly needed backup for Jody Davis. When Moreland was also in the lineup, Frey had both his catchers playing at once. I wouldn`t necessarily call Hassey "third-string". He`s hit around .250-.265 the last couple years. But to trade away SO much young talent. Hall has been proving himself, though as I`ve mentioned previously needs to learn how to run the bases. Joe Carter has been burning them up in AAA, hitting over .300 with lots of RBIs. Schultze still needs work before he`s ready for the majors, but there`s potential (he`s only 21). It will be extremely interesting to see if Carter and Hall can clear waivers. I assume that the ex-Indians can play for the Cubs. They must, since Frazier pitched in relief yesterday. If they don`t clear, you know Cleveland will expect to get more. By the way, did you read where NBC is strongly suggesting they be allowed to erect temporary lights if the Cubs make it to the World Series?? I`ll tell them what they can do with their lights.
