[net.sport.baseball] All-Star voting

You want to talk about a joke, let`s talk about the voting for
All-Stars going on. I took a look at the current vote
tallies and was appalled. In the NL, you`ve got Steve Sax
on top. Where`s Sandburg at? About 5th or 6th. He`s having
a tremendous year. No mention of Francona at first. Sure,
he`s not on the ballot, but where are the write-ins? Garvey
made it as a write-in, and I see Francona as about the best
hitter in the NL this season. Or how about Gwynn from SD?
He`s on top of the league, but nothing in the standings.
Then we fly to the Junior Circuit to see more injustice.
Davis of Seattle is having a great season - another guy
who deserves write-in votes. Garcia of Toronto is a poor
5th or 6th at his spot. And the thing that galls me the
most is Reggie Jackson being #2 in the outfield. Come on,
let`s quit this vote for name stuff and vote for the players
having great seasons. How about Kingman in Oakland?
Talk about turning yourself around by switching teams!
I think they should either give the vote back to the teams,
or revise the procedure somehow of how names get placed
on the ballot. I used all the write-in spaces available
on my ballot. Others should do the same. And while I`m at
it, why can`t we vote for pitchers also? I never understood
that. Enough from me for a bit.

I totally agree that the All-Star voting has gotten out of hand.
Where are Rafael Ramirez and Claudell Washington in the balloting?
Probably near the bottom since they are not well known, but are
both in the top ten in batting and other offensive categories. I
may be an Atlanta fan, but I don't even think that Dale Murphy
should be as high up as he is now. He's hit a lot of homers, but
his average is only around .250. (It looks like he may be falling
into the Mike Schmidt syndrome. ARGGGGG!!!) Anyway, look at
Gary Carter leading the catching position. The only thing I see
him doing any good at is slugging pct. And would you beleive that
Steve Yeager is running second in the balloting. I don't think he
has played 25 games this year (starting, that is). I could go on
for days, but hopefully the coaches will equalize this fiasco with
some good picks (e.g., Gwynn, Francona, Hayes, Dernier, etc.)

Till next time,
