This is what should be done: Have an election by the fans for a mid-year (or whenever) "All-Star" exhibition, so that everyone can see their favorites. Then, after the World Series or during the off season (or whenever), the respective leagues should assemble their best team of players, with no help from the fans, and have a truly competitive series. A sufficient monetary reward to each player of the winning team should assure that the games, as well as the selection of the teams, is very competitive. Such a series should, theoretically, be the sport of baseball played at its very finest - a real treat to any true fan of the game. Play ball!
