Aw, c'mon, bball fans. This is the National League East we're talking about! You KNOW the baby bears are going to do their famous fade; they've benefited from being at home for so long, but now have to win on the road, where they're not very strong - put them in a non-hitters park and their pitching can't carry them. The Phils may back into it because of Mike Schmidt. They may not make it for that reason and the fact that they field like a Little League team. Les Expos are too beat up, frankly. The Pirates aren't good enough. The Cards are in some sort of funk, and don't have any quality starting pitching save Andujar, who is brilliantly erratic. This leaves the Mets. The Mets do rely on a lot of young pitchers to carry them. The keys, Darling and Gooden, have had some trouble winning games since the All-Star break (I think Gooden's won one, lost one, 1 ND and Darling has had 3 ND's since then), but it doesn't matter. The team has a lot of pitching depth - look at this new guy Fernandez, who's shown that brains, not overpowering tools, can win games. Foster and Strawberry are hitting (finally), Hernandez will win the MVP award if the Mets win it and Brooks will hit well all season. This is going to be fun! Bye, bye, Cubbies!
