If you would watch more games, you > would see it happen quite often. First, I posted my met flames before the Smith affair took place. Second, Smith's pitch was high and inside and probably would have missed Foster entirely if he had stood still(as seen from the highlites). But Foster decided to take a dive anyway. I don't blame him. Safety comes first. It's nothing to gamble on. Even the ump didn't take it very seriously other than to warn Smith about inside pitching. Only after the mets vehemontly protested did the ump decide to throw Smith out. There was a big difference in Terell's case. Not saying he did it intentionally, but if you pitch enough high and tight ones, some are going to go closer than you want them to. I think the met pitchers were going out of their way pitching close. Hence the unreasonable number of hit batsmen. I watch most cub games and rarely see a hit batsmen. Three in three games by the mets is a little much. So don't justify it by saying things like that happen quite often. Though maybe a person watching the mets games regularily might have gotten a different impression about normal frequency. This method of pitching is what I disagree with. Making batters fear for their lives is not baseball. We're talking bush league here. >And how about the jerks sitting behind the Mets dugout? Fans will be fans. If you want to complain about them, do it under seperate heading. I won't argue much. Though I don't blame them for their reaction. Anyway, I wonder what kind of hospitality the met fans will have next time around. Their was an article here in a paper after the last series on how the met fans were the worst ever encountered. I'm sure I could find it if necessary. Yes, I agree, there are always fans around who are jerks.

An update on the whole "beanball" affair: Dernier was quoted immediately after the game as having said that Terrell wasn't throwing at him. So now you have it from the horse's mouth. The reason that all those ejections took place was the one cited by Tom O'Connor: the umpires had issued a blanket warning before the game began. David Rubin {allegra|astrovax|princeton}!fisher!david
