On Thursday, August 30, 1984, baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn announced that temporary lights will *not* be installed at Wrigley Field should the Cubs make it to the playoffs and the World Series! A compromise was reached between the Cubs management, MLB and the TV networks such that all games played at Wrigley will be played during the day. This has litle bearing for the playoffs, but for the Series, it means that the Cubs will lose the home-field-advantage (meaning they will now play only three games at home instead of four). The three games that may be played at Wrigley will be on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, thus reducing the loss of TV revenues significantly. This compromise pleased those Chicagoans that live near Wrigley, and should please Cubs fans. At least now they can play three games in the Friendly Confines, instead of four games in a familiar city but a different park (because of the changes brought on by temporary lighting. -- Ron Lewen ....ihnp4!tellab1!rcl <----------------------------------------------------------------> Th...th...th...th...that's all, folks!
