The complete `69 Chicago Cubs fight song went like this: Hey Hey! Holy Mackerel! No doubt about it! The CUBS are on their way! The CUBS are gonna hit today. They`re gonna pitch today. They`re gonna field today. Come what may, the CUBS are gonna win today. (Ba-da-ba-ba) Hey Hey! Holy Mackerel! No doubt about it! The CUBS are on they`re way! They`ve got the hustle! They`ve got the muscle! The CHICAGO CUBS are on their way! With their stirring win in Philly yesterday (We in Chicago didn`t see the last inning because of satellite problems!), even with a bad call in the outfield and the controversy over Oliver`s bat, THE MAGIC NUMBER IS NOW 20 AND STILL GOING DOWN! GO CUBS GO! GO CUBS GO! HEY CHIAGO! WHAT DO YOU SAY THE CUBS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY! (refrain from `84 fight song) Tom O`Connor ihuxw!tommyo

I came to Champaign in '74, and (in the days before cable) could only catch Cubs games when the local t.v. station saw fit to pick one up from the network. Those games were introduced by this song. Did our local station just keep playing an old song? Anyway, in the days before this year, singing 'they've got the muscle...' had a hollow ring to it. Things sure have changed. get 'em cubs!! S.
