P.S. It may not last of course. No flames re "weak division". The Royals
have been without Brett, Wilson, Balboni, White and others during part of
the season all year long.

The only thing the winner of the A.L. west is going to do is prolong
their season by a grand total of three games.

This is certainly an understatement. Only a Tiger fan
can say that. However, Detroit even has losing record against Kansas City
this year. Who knows what will happen in the League Championship Series?

Remember 1980? The Yankees won 103 games that year and the Royals
won less than 100 games. But who got into the World Series?

Don't bet the wife, kids and Sony that the Tigers are going to
sweep the Western Division Champions. There have been numerous times
in sports history when a mediocre team, that gets hot at the end of
the season and wins it's division, knocks off a statistically
superior team in the playoffs. One example is the N.Y. Mets knocking
off the Reds in 1973. Then again, all this is void if the Royals
win the division by losing.

Just to clarify, Detroit does NOT have a losing record against Kansas City
this year. They were 1-5 at Tiger Stadium and 6-0 at Royals Stadium for
a 7-5 record.

A local NY sportswriter has said that the fact that the Tigers haven't
had to play a "crucial" game or "crucial" series all season may hurt
them in the playoffs.

Make a lot of sense.
