[net.sport.baseball] All is Quiet in Chicago

Well, all you Cub fans out there who were crowing after the Cubs jumped
out to a 2-0 lead in Chicago, your dream has ended. The Padres won 3
straight for the first time in the N.L. League Champioship Series, and the
season is over for the Cubbies.

I hate to say I told you so, but I did about a month ago. The Padres were not
given much of a chance by almost anyone, but they pulled it out when they had
to. I don't think it was a matter of the Cubs choking, but the Padres just
played well (clutch hitting & pitching) when they had to. I think it's
remarkable that this season is the first time in San Diego Padres history that
the team finished over .500 and now they are in the World Series. Give them
some due credit...they have only been in existence since 1969!

On paper, the Tigers look to be strong favorites with a rested, stronger
pitching staff. But, I wouldn't count the Padres out just yet. Offensively,
the Padres scored 20 runs in the last 3 games of the LCS after scoring only
2 in the first two games. Their bats are pretty hot now, but if any pitching
staff can cool them down, it will be the Tigers.

I'm not making any predictions on who will win, but I think the series will
go at least 6 games. Here's to hoping for good baseball!
