Well, now that all these Padre fans came out of the woodwork after beating the Cubbies (sigh), they have had quite a bit to cheer about in the first 2 series games. The long relief was just tremendous. Hawkins and Lefferts really shut the Tigers down, after it looked liked Detroit would make the game a rout as they assailed Whitson hard and heavily. It figures that a guy like Bevacqua would get the winning homer. Almost anybody, no matter what his regular season stats, can become a Series hero (Al Weis for example). It seemed strange that Herndon didn`t start Game 2 after his winner the the opener, but I don`t like to second-guess Sparky (though Frey gicing an intentional pass to the to Garvey!!) The Tigers need to solve that middle inning Padre relief to keep S.D. at bay. How about Doug Bair getting in the way of Gibson on the foul fly. Totally inexcusable! Lucky for Det. it didn`t come back to haunt them. Hope the Tiger fans don`t do that gosh-awful wave. I`m sick of it! I liked the opening of the Series going back to 1903. On to Detroit.
