<=== yum yum ===> The Jays have completed a trade that should make them the team to beat next year in the AL East: Alfredo Griffin and Dave Collins to Oakland for Bill Caudill. That gives the Jays what they have lacked the last two years, someone in the bullpen who puts out fires instead of throwing gasoline on them. The question in my mind is whether the bench will still be strong enough - giving up two starters (although this will give Fernandez a real chance to play) is tough to fill. The Tigers are going to find out next year that Hernandez was a flash in the pan - he was no good before, and he'll return to the same. Remember you may have heard it here first! Both Collins and Griffin will be replaceable in the starting lineup, but Collins' base-stealing ability and good attitude will be missed. Still, it's something they had to do and I'm glad they did it. I was hoping they could do it without trading Collins, but his age probably made him more expendable than the younger outfielders. -- Jeff Richardson, DCIEM, Toronto (416) 635-2073 {linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd}!utcsrgv!dciem!jeff {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!dciem!jeff
