We now have less than one month to go before Spring training opens. This seems like a good time to make a stab at predicting September's results. Why a good time? Two reasons: (1) Major personnel shifts are probably over, and (2) I'll be the first. So here goes: 1985 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL GUESSTIMATES NATIONAL LEAGUE AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST WEST EAST WEST New York Atlanta Detroit Chicago Chicago San Diego Toronto Minnesota Pittsburgh Los Angeles Boston Oakland Philadelphia Houston Baltimore Kansas City Montreal Cincinnati New York California St. Louis San Fransisco Cleveland Seattle Milwaukee Texas Best Bet: Atlanta Best Dark Horse: Boston Best Race: NL East If you're wondering about the prognosticator's track record, you wonder well. Last year, I only made predictions about the National League. Did rather well in the West, but I'd rather not talk about the East (it's not MY fault that Dallas Green successfully obtained a pitching staff during the course of the season at minimal cost). 1984 NATIONAL LEAGUE RESULTS ACTUAL PREDICTED EAST WEST EAST WEST Chicago San Diego Philadelphia San Diego New York Atlanta Montreal Los Angeles Philadelphia Los Angeles New York Atlanta St. Louis Houston Pittsburgh Houston Montreal Cincinnati St. Louis Cincinnati Pittsburgh San Fransisco Chicago(groan) San Fransisco Hey, wait a minute! My crystal ball's starting to fog... David Rubin {allegra|astrovax|princeton}!fisher!david

The way I see it the Mets should take it all, they have made the team stronger with trades, and Strawberry will be on fire. If predictions are going to start this early then let it be, METS, GAME 6 'nuff said Miguel C. (ronin) !reed!ronin
